Legalization of Thai Documents for international use
1. Can Thai documents requiring translation into a foreign language
other than English be legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs exclusively offers legalization services for official documents issued by government departments. Documents authored by private entities or individuals outside government agencies are not accepted for legalization by Consular Officers.
However, in certain cases, specific countries allow translation into their language before submitting documents for legalization, as seen in case no. 2 including Spanish, German, Russian, and French.
2. Can documents in Thai (which further need to be translated into
a foreign language other than English) be certified/legalized
directly at the concerning Embassies?
No, the documents in Thai are firstly required to be legalized with the Consular Office. Once duly legalized, the document can be further certified/legalized at the concerning Embassies. Please however note that such documents must only be official documents issued by government department either in Thai or in English only.
But there are some countries that can translate into their language and submit to the document legalization process, such as Spanish, German, Russian, French.
** The Consular Office exclusively legalizes documents issued by governmental bodies. However, certain countries may accept translations into specific languages.
